A healthy suspension plays a critical role in enabling safe handling of your vehicle. So if you notice any symptom of suspension trouble, you’ll want to have the mechanic take a look. At Brake Masters, we provide expert suspension repair in the greater Camarillo area. Our local mechanics will make sure your car’s suspension is in safe shape and allows you to have a comfortable ride. Here are six signs of a suspension problem.
One Corner Sits Low
A damaged spring could cause one corner of your car to sit lower. With a bad spring, you could hear clunking sounds when you go over bumps.
Fails the Bounce Test
You can do a simple test to help you figure out if you’re driving with worn-out shocks/struts. First, make sure your vehicle is securely parked and at no risk of rolling. Next, press down with all of your muscle on the front and rock it a couple of times, then let go. Then, head to the back of your vehicle and repeat this step on the rear. Upon releasing, your vehicle should rock no more than three times on its own. If it rocks more than this, then you’ll want to have a mechanic inspect your suspension.
“Nose Diving” Sensation
If your shocks are shot, it may seem like you’re lunging forward at a downward trajectory when you engage the brakes.
Drifting/Swaying
Assuming you’re following the posted speed limit, you shouldn’t get a drifting or swaying sensation when you go around sharp turns. But if it does feel this way, then your suspension could be in poor shape.
Bumpy Driving
If your car feels like it's badly bouncing around whenever it goes over any little bump in the road, then suspension trouble is likely brewing.
Leaking or Visible Damage
It’s a good idea to occasionally conduct a quick visual inspection of your suspension. If your shocks are leaking oil, they’ll probably need to be replaced.
